A free samurai action platformer that runs in your browser. Slash through 1000 stages, parry arrows out of the air and take on ten bosses, on your phone or your computer, with nothing to install.
Samurai Vengeance is a side-on action platformer about one samurai fighting through 1000 stages of moonlit rooftops and floating platforms. The combat is built around timing. A three-hit combo builds a damage multiplier, a well-timed parry cancels an attack and turns your next swing into a double-damage finisher, and a dash lets you slip straight through danger. Every tenth stage is a boss that changes pace when it drops below half health.
It runs in any modern browser, on phones and computers, with touch or keyboard controls. There's no download and no account needed to play. Progress saves on the device, and signing in syncs it across devices.
The whole game is a single web page of plain JavaScript, about 600 KB, drawn on an HTML canvas with no game engine. The soundtrack isn't a set of audio files: the browser generates it live in a Japanese five-note scale. The dev notes cover some of the problems along the way, like the bug that made the game run at double speed on 120Hz phones.
